Residential proxies: how they work

Updated 2 min read

Residential proxies are coming soon. They are not on sale yet, so you cannot order them today. ISP and datacenter proxies are on sale now.

With residential proxies, your requests leave through ordinary home internet connections. To a website, you look like a visitor on home broadband. The address comes from a shared pool and changes as you go.

Who it is for

  • Sites that show captchas, empty pages or blocks as soon as traffic comes from a server.
  • Jobs where you want a different address for each request, so no single IP gets too many hits.
  • Work that comes in bursts. You pay per gigabyte, so a quiet month costs nothing.

If the site accepts server traffic, a datacenter IP is the cheaper choice. If an account needs the same address for weeks, use ISP. See Which proxy should you buy?.

How you will pay

  • You will pay per gigabyte of traffic, from your balance.
  • The price per gigabyte goes down as one order gets bigger. Each order is priced by its own size, so several small orders are each priced as small orders.

What you can and cannot choose

Could you get the same IP twice?

Yes, it can happen. The pool is shared. If you need one address you can count on for weeks, ISP proxies are made for that.
