Checking a proxy with our free tools

Updated 2 min read

Two free tools on our website show what a website can see about your connection. You do not need an account to use them.

  • The proxy checker shows your exit IP, the network it belongs to, any other address that WebRTC gives away, and any headers that point to a proxy.
  • The What is my IP tool shows your public IP, its network and type, and the flags that IP databases put on it.

Check one of your proxies from the dashboard

In the dashboard, open Tools, then Proxy checker. Pick one of the proxies on your account. The checker connects to it the way your own tool would, using the login on your account, so you do not need to paste anything. It does not use your balance.

Check a proxy in your browser

  1. Set your browser to use the proxy. Firefox has its own connection settings. Chrome and Edge use the system settings or an extension. The browser setup guide shows each one.
  2. Open the proxy checker and press Check my connection.
  3. Look at the Exit IP. It should be the proxy's address. If it is your own address, the browser is not using the proxy.
  4. Compare the network with what you bought. ISP addresses should sit on an internet provider's network. Datacenter addresses sit on hosting networks, which is expected.
  5. Read the WebRTC line. Another public address of the same IP version is one a website can see past the proxy.
  6. Switch the browser back to a direct connection when you are done.

Check a proxy from a terminal

Scripts and servers have no browser, so only the exit IP matters. Send one request through the proxy to an IP-echo service:

bash
curl -x "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT" https://api.ipify.org

Replace USERNAME, PASSWORD, HOST and PORT with the values on the proxy's page in the dashboard. The reply is the address the request came from, which should be the proxy's exit IP.

If the result looks wrong

  • Your own IP shows up: the traffic is not going through the proxy. Check your tool's proxy settings.
  • An ISP proxy shows a hosting network: the lookup the tools use sometimes has to guess the network type. If it keeps happening, tell us. See When something went wrong on our side for what happens when an IP is mislabelled.
  • You cannot read the result: send it to support@proxypanda.io, and we will help.
